“Lights, Sunset, Glory”
After a line of severe storms rolled through, I observed this sunset breaking through what looked to be another storm front. As the dark storm dissipated, the residential lights remained on, bracing for the next one. Instead of another storm, the sun broke through causing this luminous celestial wonder mirroring rays like a film role projecting a midday blue into the heavens, much later than such a color should have been happening. A “lights, camera, action” mentality inspired the title and goal to project the feelings of “breakthrough” this experience conjured. The painting was completed in oils. It began as a thumbnail, then underpainting, then color layers were overlayed.
