I painted this from a picture I took of a remote village in Haiti while on a medical mission trip. I was drawn to how primitive and drab but yet colorful everything was. This mud shack really caught my attention by being worn, slightly crooked and pieced together with whatever was available. It displayed a functionaly simple but yet hard and I'm povershed life. The painting is oil on canvas and painted in my studio. I tend to use multiple layers and glazes at times to help get a range of colors become more lifelike. The background shows it being overcast but the picture depicts a break in the clouds that has a sunny patch highlighting the roof and foreground.
