This is a scene in Joshua Tree National Park, California. I marvel at the stacks of rocks every time I go there, having painted plein air there. I have also taken photos at different times of the day. But this scene is done when the shadows were long on a late afternoon in winter. I tried to show this in the deep shadows in the rocks and the long shadows of the plants in the foreground.
