Hilltop View of Pikes Peak
This Colorado late-summer landscape includes the north-face of America's Mountain, Pikes Peak in the distant background. Plein air landscape distances of the Rocky Mountain region are deceiving because of the atmosphere. Because distances are difficult to understand, let alone capture, a lot of artists have difficulty communicating the space and the distance. From the painter's view point, which is on a front range mountain at a height of about 8.500 ft. within Pike National Forest, there is a lot of area to address - some of which is unidentified because it's lower than the higher vantage point in the middle ground. Remarkably, it's about thirty miles to the base of the 14,115 ft. tall mountain from where the artist's easel stood during this outdoor painting trip.
