I painted this piece after seeing the Goodyear blimp fly over Cincinnati. I spotted it one evening, having not seen one in over a decade, and drove up to the Mount Adams lookout to get a better view. I realized in this moment what a rare thing it is that we have preserved the spectacle of a blimp which is in all reality an unnecessary vestige of the past. I showed high above the city, silently floating over an evening sky as the old neighborhood houses of Mount Adams sprawl out toward the ever changing architecture of downtown Cincinnati.
