Grandfather's Dark-Eyed Junco

I started this rendering with a brunaille underpainting during the Blowing Rock Plein Air Art Festival 2024 atop Grandfather Mountain. I made a subsequent pass of color for color notes before leaving site and finished this little rendering in the studio. While I was there taking some reference photos to use as well, and a little bird flew next to me. He was a dark-eyed junco and I decided to add him on my tree! Not on this limb exactly but on a dead stump next to it. I plan to paint a portrait of him soon!
