The inspiration for this painting stemmed from fond childhood memories of spending time in the forests of SW Germany with my forester father, from obsessively reading and studying the illustrations in my childhood fairytale books, esp. The Brothers Grimm, and from sketches and photos of forests & trees during hikes in Czech Republic, Germany, VA and MD.
